Navigating the Obstacles of Training Grants & Fellowship Awards (pdf)
Join us as we explore three main areas in training grant and fellowship management: comp vs. non comp payments, appointment and termination notices, and the closeout process. This panel style session will have representatives from departments and central offices to speak on how training grants and fellowships awards are managed on the post-award side for School of Medicine/School of Nursing and Campus. The goal is to provide a forum to share and discuss best practices, experiences and general resources. -
Managing the Challenges of Cost Share Commitments (pdf)
Cost-sharing can be very challenging to manage and is especially difficult when you’re trying to keep up with a lengthy list of to-do items. This session will include such cost-sharing topics as the Duke GAP, in-kind/third party commitments and reporting, proper cost share in R3, unexpected shortfalls in meeting commitments, and examples/case study of cost-sharing. -
Successful Employee Engagement
Managers/supervisors across Duke engage their employees in various ways, and in doing so create a more cohesive, productive workplace environment. This session is led by managers/supervisors in grant management at Duke, who will provide ideas to effectively engage your employees, as well as ways that grant managers/employees can get involved. -

International Research Administration at Duke (pdf)
Additional Handouts: Fly America Act Resource Guide (pdf), Fly America Exemptions (pdf)
Duke’s research footprint continues to expand beyond our country’s borders and into other parts of the world. As we delve into more international research, proposal development and post-award management of these projects challenge the grant community at Duke to fit a square peg into a round hole. Applying what you already know doesn’t always suit the needs of an international project. Please join us to learn and discuss how to plan and prepare for an international award for successful submission and management! -
What’s a Strategy? (pdf)
Attendees will learn the importance of strategic development and learn the different frameworks to help them identify indicators that will shape their strategy. A case study will be presented to help attendees walk through the process and apply their knowledge and tools. -
