Code Definitions

This overview is designed to provide a general understanding of the various types of accounting codes used in SAP as well as to provide details regarding the logic of the structure of the cost object numbers.

The highest-level identification is the Company Code. The Company Code is a four-digit code that identifies a separate accounting entity within the SAP system.

The “fund” level of identification (profit center, cost center, WBS element, fund or internal order), for Duke University - Company Code 0010. 

The “fund” level of identification (profit center, cost center, WBS element, fund or internal order), for Duke University Health System. 

Internal orders are generally used to plan, collect and settle the costs of internal jobs and tasks.
 

The type of transactions within a cost object are identified using a six-digit GL account.
