Directors & Officers Insurance

Duke maintains professional liability insurance in the form of Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance, which provides coverage for legal expenses and liability for University trustees, officers, faculty and other employees due to breaches of duty, neglect, error, misstatement, misleading statement, omission or other wrongful acts (as defined by the policy) when engaged in our educational mission. 

Of note, this coverage does NOT extend to any other professional services provided for others.  If you plan to undertake professional services/activities outside of Duke’s educational/academic purpose (for example, consulting services for an outside entity), please contact our office in advance to discuss the potential need for insurance.

Corporate attorneys are covered under a separate lawyer’s liability insurance policy.
