Breakdown of Eligible Non-compensatory Payments
A non-compensatory payment is a payment Duke University makes to Duke students or post doctoral scholars who are receiving payments for scholarships, fellowships, summer internships, or post-doctoral study for which there is no work requirement and Duke receives no benefit from the activities performed. These types of payments are permissible for Duke University (including School of Medicine departments) in company code 0010 only.
Generally, financial aid and grants with the appropriate levels of approval are the permissible funding sources. Departmental funds and discretionary funds should not be the primary funding sources for non-compensatory payments. Funding sources 151-XXXX and 303-XXXX are not permissible for non-compensatory payments.
When submitting a payment request to be funded on a 3X1-XXXX or 4XX-XXXX cost object, additional support documentation should be attached to the request form. The support documentation should be an award letter or other communication that indicates proper approval for use of the code and a description of what activities will be required for the recipient to be eligible for the payment. For postdoc scholars receiving a stipend augmentation, the Verification for Additional Stipend Augmentation serves as support documentation.
