Daylight Savings Time

March 7, 2018

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 a.m. Employees working the 3rd shift on Saturday, March 10, 2018 will be paid for actual hours worked. Please review the following information to assure appropriate payment and answer employee questions.

An employee who works 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. will be paid for 7 hours. If the employee would like to be paid for a normal work schedule, the supervisor must enter Vacation hours for the amount of time adjusted due to the change to Daylight Saving time. In this example, one hour of Vacation must be entered into the calendar section.

Two messages may be displayed in the Time and Attendance system for employees working during third shift on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

  • A critical exception message - "Employee’s hours not adjusted for Daylight Savings due to invalid punch". The in or out swipe has occurred between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.  Action must be taken by the Supervisor to correct the error.

  • A warning exception message - "Employee's hours adjusted due to Daylight Savings Time". This is a system generated message and no action is required.

If you have specific questions related to these messages, please email us at time-attendance@duke.edu.  We appreciate your support.
