Changes to long distance dialing Oct. 1

September 29, 2010

On Friday, Oct. 1, the Duke University phone systems will be changed to allow for domestic long-distance calls without the seven-digit authorization code. Users will still have to enter an authorization code when making international long-distance calls.

The change is being made in connection with the conversion to a voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) phone system, which is allowing us to reduce phone rates for all departments. Costs are being reduced further through simplified billing procedures; departments will now be billed a flat rate per year for each line regardless of the number of domestic long-distance calls made.

If you have questions about these changes, please call the OIT Service Desk Between the hours of 8 a.m, and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and choose option #3 to speak to a member of the telecommunications help staff.
