2011 Research Administration Academy Nominations

RCC announces the opening of the nomination period for the Research Administration Academy (RAA).

RAA has been developed specifically for grant managers with less than two years of grant management experience or grant managers that are new to grant management at Duke AND who have more than 50% grant management duties in their current job.  We invite supervisors to consider sending all individuals to RAA who may benefit from the sequential training that is the trademark of the RAA program.

RAA features hands-on training in basic grants management functions, and is taught in a progression of courses that take participants through the life cycle of a sponsored project.  Additional information is available online.

The nomination process for the 2011 Spring Research Administration Academy begins today and all nomination forms must be received by 5:00 p.m. on December 10, 2010.

A few points of interest:

  1. Spaces are limited. There are 24 spaces available.
  2. All pre-requisite classes must be completed prior to a nominee being submitted as a candidate. The nomination period is from November 1st – December 10th. Nominees will be notified by December 20, 2010. Program orientation will be held on January 19, 2011.   Exceptions may be made if the applicant provides documentation of enrollment/completion in a pre-requisite prior to the first day of RAA class.
  3. Participant/Supervisor contracts must be signed and returned before a participant’s nomination can be confirmed.
  4. Each participant must have an assigned mentor. The RAA program is designed to collaborate with the participant’s supervisor and mentor to ensure continuation of training in the department during RAA and after RAA graduation. For this reason, mentors will be asked to attend regularly scheduled meetings. Mentor expectations are located on our web site.
  5. Attendance in every class is required. RCC will accept a petition for missing a class based on compelling need, but reserves the right to terminate participation in the program for absenteeism.

Please send completed nomination forms to the RCC email account at RCC-cert at duke.edu.
