FAM Project

The Financial Assessment and Management Project (FAM) is a University-wide initiative rolling out first in the School of Medicine. FAM is the culmination of multiple initiatives implemented over many years as part of the University’s Research Administration Continuous Improvement (RACI) initiative. FAM includes: 1) development of IT tools, 2) reorganization of HR research administration, and 3) resulting business process changes. The goal of FAM is improved administrative efficiency by streamlining financial and grant administration processes.

The FAM Project compliments and extends other initiatives that the University has already implemented which are designed to improve financial processes and efficiencies including:

  • Buy@Duke
  • Online travel workflow and approvals
  • AP check requests

Six units within the School of Medicine took part in the initial FAM pilot rollout in the spring of 2013. FAM continues rolling-out to other units within the School of Medicine (SoM) over the next two plus years.
